Engagement Summary - 1 May 1862 ~ 31 October 1863According to the Official Records, the following offers a summary of the 65th GA's actions in East Tennessee through the Battle of Chickamauga:
--------------The 65th Regt. Ga. Inf., was organized as the Inf. Battn. of Smith's Legion, Ga. Volunteers (also known as Ga. Partisan Rangers) in May 1862. Sometime in Mar. 1863, the Cavalry and Inf. Battalions of the Legion were broken apart and increased to regimental size. The Cavalry Battn. became the 6th Regt. Ga. Cavalry and the Inf. Battn., became the 65th Regt. Ga. Inf. Throughout its service this regiment was assigned to the Army of Tennessee, CSA.
