MUSTER ROLL

COMPANY G

65th REGIMENT
GEORGIA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY
ARMY OF TENNESSE, C. S. A.

TOWNS COUNTY, GEORGIA

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summary Analysis
The following diagram offers a way to evaluate the Muster Roll's exit comments for a particular member of Company G. The intent is to assist the reader in assessing the comparative uniquenes of the exit route taken by that member during the 36 month active life of the unit (May 1862 through May 1865).
The head count (N=117) does not include an individual who's name is referenced to another spelling of the name. Neither does it include a named individual who is fully described as a member of another unit of the 65th Georgia. Finally, if an individual is mentioned as being a member of the unit with no other comments; that is, 'present, but not otherwise accounted for,' then that person was placed in the 'Other' category.
Editor's Note: For more information, please contact Charles Ward , CMW12635@aol.com.
Mr. Ward adds... "As you have noted, his name is given somewhat differently in his service record; his surname being given as "Ensley." No doubt, one of the reasons I've found no letters written by him was because he was illiterate. I base this on census records which state he was unable to read or write. So, I'm sure that whoever took down his name spelled it phonetically as "Ensley," rather than "Ansley."
"Rayford Ansley was born July 13, 1828 in Warren Co., GA the son of Jesse Ansley and his wife, Sarah (Stanford) Ansley. His father, Jesse Ansley, was a veteran of the War of 1812. His father settled in Habersham Co., GA in the 1830s."
"Rayford Ansley married Abigail Presley on February 3, 1848, in Habersham Co., GA. By 1860, they were in Towns Co., GA and it is in that county that Rayford Ansley enlisted in the Confederate Army. As you may know ..., he spent some time in a military hospital in Dalton, GA. He was in bad health upon his return home from the war. His wife had died during the war and his children had been sent to stay with friends and relatives. As he was in bad health and since his finances (like that of many Southerners) were ruined by the war, his children continued to reside with friends and family. It was a really devastating time for this family. He later remarried and had children by his second wife."
